How To Choose The Right Builder
Are You Looking For A Reliable Building Company Who:
- Responds positively to your enquiry AND arrive on the appointed day & time?
- Gives an honest appraisal of estimated costs in writing?
- Is experienced, with over twenty five years in the industry?
- Keeps you informed throughout the project and liaise with you on any changes/problems that may be encountered?
- Actually clean up after themselves and treat your home with the respect it deserves!!!
If So, Congratulations! You've Just Found One…
Here’s a short list of questions to ask when deciding on how to choose a builder:-
- Ask For A Recommendation! If you are lucky enough to have a good friend that can recommend a builder to you, then that’s worth its weight in gold. The best way to find a good builder is through a direct referral from someone you trust, such as a family member, friend, or neighbor, who has successfully completed a similar project.
- If your friends can’t recommend someone, the next best thing is to get recommendations from the builder you are proposing to use. If he can’t supply you with two or three local recommendations you should be suspicious; any builder worth his salt will happily supply you with at least two or three recommendations.
- Once you have some recommendations, Ring them! Don’t be shy, most people are only too happy to offer their opinion! You’d be surprised how willing people are to talk about their wonderful new extension or to tell you of their experience with builders from hell. This information is priceless.
- Check they are licensed! Why would you use an unlicensed builder? All you have to do is go to www.bsa.qld.gov.au and put in their license number. Do not use any company that cannot give you their license number. You will also be able to see if there are any complaints made against the company and if so, what where they for?
- Character – You will be spending a lot of time with the builder during the project and discussing important issues + making important decisions as building progresses. You want a builder that you feel comfortable with, that you can communicate with easily and that you trust. There’s nothing worse than paying someone a lot of money who doesn’t want to communicate with you.
If you follow these simple steps, you’re chances of getting a great builder will be dramatically improved.
